Oil leaking from the camshaft sensor plug is a
familiar problem on Mercedes-Benz petrol engines. The
fault is design-related and cannot be rectified in the
long term by replacing the sensor. Due to the
capillary effect, the oil can infiltrate the harness
to reach the control unit and eventually cause
electronic failure and damage to individual parts.
Such damage can be prevented with the Herth+Buss oil-
stop cable. Fine copper sleeves have been incorporated
into both lines of the oil-stop cable in order to
prevent the oil from spreading. These have
subsequently also been wrapped in heat-shrink tubing.
We recommend installing one oil-stop cable on every
M111 (engine code), two on every M271 and as many as
four on every M272 (V6).

How long does it take to fit the oil-stop cable?
Fitting it will take a maximum of five minutes. Detach
the harness from the sensor before inserting the oil-
stop cable from Herth+Buss between the connection on
the sensor and the old harness.
